Our first Winter Market starts this Thursday! @westportfarmersmarket heads to @gilbertieswestport nursery every fall as the seasons changes to extend our market season for our community through the winter months. Every week we transplant these lettuce seedlings into our shipping container farm. We always use non-GMO seeds and plant seeds into a biodegradable plug made from coconut husk and peat moss. Our plants thrive in the controlled environment, receiving the optimal amount of light, nutrients, carbon dioxide, airflow, and temperature. This means our lettuce grows faster, and healthier than its soil grown counterparts without exposure to extreme weather, pests, or insufficient water. On average, it takes just over a month for one crop cycle, and we produce all year round! BIG NEWS! HRH is expanding! With the support of the CT Grown for CT Kids grant from the CT Department of Agriculture we are adding two more shipping container farms to our facility. They were just delivered from South Carolina this morning! Of course the day we need to unload 2x 16,000lb shipping containers there are 40mph winds. We got it done and are very excited to get it all hooked up and running soon. We will be moving our operations to Bridgeport, CT in the coming weeks. We will be using @amplifiedaginc NFT pod to grow lettuces for students in CT. We will also have lettuces available to our existing and new customers. If you have children or a connection to a local school system that may be interested in purchasing locally grow hydroponic lettuce and/or microgreens please reach out.
